Mural Project

Where it all began
This project was born from Para Los Niños de Highline’s vision to curate their first-ever outdoor gallery, transforming the exterior of their building into a collection of murals. In collaboration with Seattle 4Culture, they brought me on to help bring that vision to life—with the intention of celebrating cultural storytelling and bringing community together.
Painting murals had always been a goal of mine, but somehow it always felt just out of reach, layered with fear and a lack of mentorship. This time, the project came to me, and I decided to take it on (hesitations and all). I wanted to approach the design with intention and genuine ideas, while keeping them feasible for the timeline and scale. Luckily, my instinct came in handy, como siempre ha sido. She’s there to listen and to speak.
The design was inspired by growing up taking summer road trips to Baja, California—listening to ’80s Mexican music and watching the desert pass by, full of its own wonders. Somewhere along the way came my love for cacti and their quiet beauty.
The mural embodies the feminine energy of Mother Earth. Her vines and cacti intertwine, while butterflies dance around her as she joyfully sings—cantando, whispering loving words to the world around us. It was her spirit that I connected with, or at least my interpretation of it, translated through bold colors, patterns, and movement.
And somehow, she turned out better than I thought she would.
I’m forever grateful to Para Los Niños de Highline and Virginia Herrera, Executive Director, for the opportunity to bring my first mural to life. Their mission—to support the success of the Latin American community by building leadership skills, celebrating diversity, promoting artistic expression, and cultivating lifelong
curiosity—it's a project I’m proud to stand behind. Based in Burien, this is a community I’ll continue to support and celebrate for years to come. And if you’re ever in Burien, come check out the fresh art!
